Autonomy and Daisy’s M&A ambitions examined

Enterprise software vendor Autonomy issued a trading update yesterday in which it noted that, whilst Q3 revenues have been strong, the outlook for Q4 is less certain. As a result, revenues for the full revenues are now expected to be 3% lower than previously thought. The shares were marked down by 16% thereby giving up all of the summer’s gains. With a substantial acquisition still mooted, we ask whether this setback will impact Autonomy's ambitious acquisition plans - Premium subscribers can read our views in Newswire Plus.

In-line Daisy reiterates buy and build ambitions

Business telco Daisy has released an in-line trading statement, updated progress on the integration of recent acquisitions (Fone Logistics and Murphx) and reiterated its buy and build strategy. CFO Anthony Riley told us in a call that the market still remains conducive for M&A deals at attractive multiples, despite recent private equity interest. Premium subscribers can read our full review in Newswire Plus and readers can see our investment notes on Daisy here.

Ofcom’s proposals speed up superfast broadband

Ofcom has released its 250-page proposal on BT’s wholesale fibre access offerings, confirming the requirement for a virtual fibre access product, which can be priced at BT’s discretion. The main change from the March consultation document (Premium Plus readers see here) is that Ofcom is looking for a quicker introduction of pole and duct sharing, which we highlighted as a major competitive barrier to entry in the recent BT/Cornwall broadband tender (see here).

Datatec sweeps up remaining stake in Westcon

ICT services group Datatec has swept up the remaining 2.6% stake in its distribution arm Westcon that it did not already own. Datatec is paying $14.3m for the stake in cash and loan notes to its owner Routine Capital. The deal is expected to have a modestly positive impact on EPS (roughly 2%).

Datatec will announce its interim results next week which should provide an interesting data point in understanding global IT services demand. Datatec has been increasingly confident in the recovery in recent months; but will it have started to see some caution emerging again?
